12 Senses

12 Senses There are six senses, sending their input to the brain via their own unique channels. But when a human closes their eyes and imagines they are somewhere else (not Here&Now but There&Then), for example recalling a memory, they experience sight, sound, touch, taste, scent and emotions - and those sensory inputs do not travel on the same information network as the inputs from Here&Now.
6 senses Here&Now, and another set of six to deal with There&Then = 12 senses.

12 Senses

In the framework of Modern Energy developed by Silvia Hartmann, the traditional understanding of human perception is expanded far beyond the conventional five senses taught in standard biology. Hartmann posits that humans possess at least 12 senses. This model recognizes humans as multi-dimensional beings, comprising both a physical body that interacts with the tangible world of matter and an energy body that engages with non-physical, energetic realities. This duality demands a more comprehensive sensory system to fully perceive, process, and navigate existence, bridging the gap between the material and the immaterial.

The Foundation: Human Multi-Dimensionality

At the heart of Hartmann's philosophy is the idea that limiting human perception to just five senses creates a reductionist view, leading to disconnection, stress, and unfulfilled potential. The materialistic paradigm, which focuses solely on physical inputs, ignores the vast streams of information humans absorb from non-physical sources—such as intuition, emotions, and energy flows. To address this, Hartmann structures the senses symmetrically, dividing them into two parallel sets: one for the "Here & Now" (physical reality) and another for the "There & Then" (non-physical or internal experiences like memories, imagination, and energy perceptions).

This expansion isn't merely metaphorical. Hartmann emphasizes that these senses operate on distinct neurological pathways in the brain, allowing for clear differentiation between external and internal inputs. For instance, when a person closes their eyes and vividly recalls a memory—such as a beach vacation—they experience sights (crashing waves), sounds (seagulls), touches (warm sand), tastes (salty air), smells (ocean breeze), and emotions (joy)—all without interference from the current physical environment. These sensations travel on separate "information networks" from real-time sensory data, enabling immersive internal experiences.

The 12 Senses Breakdown

Hartmann organizes the 12 senses into two categories, each mirroring the other but tailored to different realms:

6 Senses for Physical Reality (Here & Now)

These handle immediate inputs from the external, tangible world, each traveling along dedicated neural pathways to the brain for real-time processing:

  1. Sight: Visual perception of the physical environment.
  2. Hearing: Auditory detection of sounds in the surroundings.
  3. Touch: Tactile sensations, such as pressure, temperature, and texture.
  4. Taste: Gustatory inputs from food and substances.
  5. Smell: Olfactory detection of scents and odors.
  6. Emotions: Missing from the in traditional models, emotions serve as a sixth sense in Hartmann's framework. They detect and process energy flows within and around the body, providing feedback on internal states and environmental energies through direct physical responses in the physical body.

6 Senses for Non-Physical Reality (There & Then)

These mirror the physical senses and engage during activities like recalling memories, creative visualization, or lucid dreaming. The experience of the "There & Then" is the same as in physical reality in deep immersion:

  1. Internal Sight: Seeing in the "There & Then," including phenomena not visible in physical reality, such as angels or floating mountains; it is the non-physical version of seeing.
  2. Internal Hearing: Hearing what is happening in the "There & Then" realm, such as angelic music, the sound of a waterfall, or solar music; an information set that contributes to the overall experience.
  3. Internal Touch: Felt sensations.
  4. Internal Taste: The experience of tasting in the "There & Then," akin to biting into a lemon, but occurring in the non-physical realm.
  5. Internal Smell: Olfactory experiences in the "There & Then," which may include scents unknown in physical reality.
  6. Internal Emotions: Emotional reactions to the events and environments in the "There & Then."

This dual-system approach explains why internal experiences can feel so real and convincing. The brain doesn't reroute the "Here & Now" channels; instead, it activates a dedicated "internal sensory suite" with its own pathways, preventing overlap and allowing for phenomena like lucid dreaming and creativity.

Why At Least 12? The Rationale

Hartmann's "at least 12" framing underscores the structural necessity of this expanded model. Just as the physical body requires senses to avoid dangers and interact with matter, the energy body needs equivalents to engage with non-physical matters. Restricting perception to fewer senses leads to "reality divergences"—where individuals become disconnected from their full potential, resulting in emotional blockages or limited creativity.

The core reasoning includes:

  • Addressing Limitations of Materialism: The five-sense view ignores non-physical data AND emotions, creating an incomplete picture of human experience.
  • Neurological Parallels: Both sets of senses have their own brain pathways, supporting the idea of a balanced, multi-layered perceptual system.
  • Enhanced Potential: Recognizing 12 senses empowers individuals to understand the logic of energy work, improve intelligence, and achieve greater results through systems like EMO Energy In Motion (energy work in physical reality) and Project Sanctuary (energy work in non-physical reality). Star Matrix addresses both through the 50%/50% rule.

In GoE practices, this model is foundational for techniques that cultivate awareness of the energy body, encouraging practitioners to use these additional senses for personal growth and healing. By embracing at least 12 senses, Hartmann invites a more logical understanding of human information processing - one that integrates the physical and energetic for a richer, more empowered life one the one hand, and points to future scientific research in an orderly fashion on the other
