Robert Gene Smith has posted a YouTube video:
The experience didn't cause the PTSD. What your brain brought in, took in, organized, and used on you โ that is what caused it. The brain itself is completely neutral. Nothing is bad. Nothing is good. It just is. Trauma to the brain is an intense experience that educates you and helps you survive. That's it. A surprise birthday party where you feel like the queen of the world โ to the brain, that is also a trauma. A positive one. The brain does not distinguish. It captures the intensity and encodes it as a resource for the future. This is why the song is not really about the song. Crystal could not listen to "I Will Always Love You" without grief. Not because of Whitney Houston. Not because of the movie. Because the song had become a metaphor for her own inner experiences of loss. The brain took the movie, took the music, and linked it to what was already held inside. Now she plays it every single day. Because she worked on the references underneath it. Changed what the brain had organized around it. And the grief is gone. Your PTSD is your brain's education, internalization, and survival system operating now, on what is happening in front of you. The original event is over. What is still running is what your brain built from it. And what your brain built, your brain can change. The free 5-day course is where I start teaching you how.
