But here's what I want you to understand and this changes everything. It is not all in your head. But it's not entirely in your body either. It's in your memories. People talk about the body keeps the score. It doesn't. The body EXPRESSES the score. The scorekeeper is the brain, the unresolved memories, the emotional experiences that were never processed, the nervous system that learned to stay on high alert and never received the signal to come down. Think about this. You witness someone get hurt right in front of you at a gas station. You start having panic attacks and night sweats. You go to a psychologist and they tell you that you have a disorder. A disorder. Your brain responded exactly the way it was designed to respond to a threat and they labeled it a malfunction. Because they don't understand the process of memories. They don't understand how the brain is trying to keep you safe. So they give it a name. They give you a pill. They send you home. The body is not the problem. The body is the messenger. And when you learn to address the memory structure underneath, the brain that has been protecting you from something it decided was dangerous a long time ago, the body finally gets to stop expressing the emergency.
